Opera In The Park, Palm Springs Style

Yesterday was a day I’d looked forward to all year, Palms Springs Opera in the Park. This year, the 19th annual, was a celebration of the most unknown arias ever written. It was all lovely music, but even the arias from operas I’m very familiar with, like Carmen, Madama Butterfly, and Don Giovanni, were the little known and rarely played arias.

It was a great day to sit under a shade tree, open a bottle of chilled white wine, and eat lovely snacks while enjoying world-class music. The singers represent the cream of the crop of new up-and-coming talent in the world of opera. Also, hats off to our excellent orchestra, led by Maestro Valery Ryvkin, and brava to Music Director Mona Lands for creating an outstanding program of opera gems.

The residents of Palm Springs are extremely fortunate to have this wonderful event each year. I am so grateful to the Palm Springs Opera Guild of the Desert for their generosity in bringing this delightful musical treat to our city.
