Southern California's Super Bloom

After several years of severe drought, Southern California saw a winter/spring of plentiful rainfall, and we are now experiencing the first wave of what people are calling a Super Bloom. I’ve lived in Palm Springs for five years now, and I’ve never seen the mountains so green, and couldn’t even imagine there could be so many wildflowers blooming.

I’m told this is the first of four separate waves of blooms that we’ll see this spring—each wave made up of different types of flowers that bloom at different times of the year. What we’ve seen so far is nothing short of spectacular. It’s hard to imagine that this will continue with different waves and different colors throughout the spring.

Thousands upon thousands of tourists from LA, San Diego, and other cities are flooding the national parks each weekend to see colors and experience what might be a once in a lifetime event.
