A Trek Through South India's Tea Country

We spent a night in Munnar in order to see the tea-growing region. We saw it on foot, taking a four-hour trek through tea plantations and along a mountain ridge. We climbed over three thousand feet to the top of one of the local mountains. Because of fog and pollution, these pictures don’t do justice to the spectacular landscape.

Our guide started by asking us our age. When we told him we were both sixty-five, he decided to take the climbing very slow. We soon told him we walked across Spain last year, crossing three mountain ranges, so it was okay to pick up the pace. He reluctantly did.

Tea plants as far as you can see.

Resting on the top of the mountain.

After our hike, we lunched in Munnar. This is one shot of the colorful and bustling, downtown market place.

Me enjoying the view from our balcony at the guesthouse.

Towel animals greeted us upon entering the room.

Dinner at Blackberry Hills overlooking the plantations.
